Power of Persistence

“Never give up.”

-Winston Churchill

In all areas of success, persistence is the key. In all that we do, we should carry persistence in our hearts.  Persistence is the wood that keeps the fire burning. When everything seems  to be against us and all our dreams slowly fade before our eyes, we hold only the virtue of persistence, because we know all our efforts would pay off in the end. We persist because this is the very thing we need to do at the given moment. For us, persistence is the key.  This kind of persistence magnified the faith of the woman who asks a favor from Jesus.

Just to make things clear, this blog is not about a specific religion. I just want to share here an example of the power of persistence I read from the Bible because we all need persistence in all our undertakings.

The following story is taken from the Holy Bible (Mt 15:22-28).

Now a Canaanite woman came from those borders and began to cry out, “Lord, Son of David, have pity on me! My daughter is tormented by a demon.” But Jesus did not answer her, not even a word. So his disciples approached him and said, “Send her away: see how she is shouting after us.”

Then Jesus said to her, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the nation of Israel.”

But the woman was already kneeling before Jesus and said, “Sir, help me!” Jesus answered, “It is not right to take the bread from the children and throw it to the little dogs.” The woman replied, “It is true, sir, but even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master’s table.” Then Jesus said, “Woman, how great is your faith! Let it be as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

That is the power of persistence! She persisted even if she knew she was not worthy in the eyes of the people around. She persisted even if Jesus himself did not acknowledge her presence at first. She persisted because she just had to, to fulfill her very goal: her daughter must be healed. Because of her faith and persistence, Jesus granted her wish and her daughter was healed.

We too must persist even if at first it’s a no. We must persist to fulfill our worthy goals.

Have a purposeful day!
